President John Dramani Mahama has challenged Ghana’s four newly appointed envoys to turn the country’s diplomatic missions into stronger engines of investment, trade and job creation, as his government seeks to advance its Reset Agenda.

Speaking at a swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House on Friday, October 16, 2026, the President urged the ambassadors to go beyond traditional diplomatic duties and focus on partnerships that deliver tangible economic benefits for Ghana.

The four envoys are Nana Antwiwaa Dodoo, assigned to Angola; Louis Kwame Obeng, appointed to Qatar; Evelyn Korantemaa Ofosu-Amable, Ghana’s ambassador to Israel; and Jedidiah Reuben Adogla, who will serve as Ghana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland.

President Mahama said Ghana’s foreign missions must become more proactive in identifying investors, opening foreign markets to Ghanaian businesses and establishing partnerships that support the country’s development priorities.

He stressed that diplomatic engagement should produce measurable results, particularly in investment, employment, skills development and technology transfer.

“Our missions play an important role in identifying investors whose interests align with Ghana’s development priorities, helping Ghanaian businesses enter new markets abroad, and building relationships with institutions that can support skills development, research, and technology transfer,” he said.

According to the President, the effectiveness of Ghana’s economic diplomacy should be assessed by the opportunities created and the jobs generated through international cooperation.

He also called on the envoys to attract investment into productive sectors and promote local processing of Ghana’s natural resources, rather than allowing the country to miss opportunities to create more value from its own raw materials.

Beyond attracting capital and expanding trade, President Mahama reminded the new ambassadors that protecting the welfare of Ghanaians living abroad must remain a central responsibility.

He called for efficient consular services and stronger assistance for citizens who may need support while residing or travelling outside the country.

The President also directed the envoys to work closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, follow established government policies and ensure that public resources are used responsibly.

He said Article 40 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution should guide their conduct, particularly in promoting and protecting the country’s interests in international relations.

President Mahama also highlighted Ghana’s application for partnership with the BRICS countries, describing the move as part of efforts to broaden the country’s development partnerships and deepen cooperation among developing economies.

He said stronger engagement with BRICS could open additional avenues for trade, investment, industrialisation and value addition.

The President maintained that expanding Ghana’s international partnerships did not mean abandoning its longstanding relationships with traditional development partners.

Instead, the initiative is intended to give Ghana more opportunities to pursue its economic objectives through broader international cooperation.

The President also outlined Ghana’s position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, specifically directing the newly appointed ambassador to Israel, Evelyn Korantemaa Ofosu-Amable, to uphold the country’s established policy.

“We recognise the sovereign State of Palestine and support a viable two-state solution in which Israel and Palestine will live side by side in peace and security within internationally recognised and secure borders,” he said.

He added that Ghana’s international engagements must be guided by respect for international law, the protection of civilians and the preservation of human dignity.

The directive underscores the responsibility of Ghana’s diplomats to advance the country’s foreign policy positions while maintaining constructive international relations.

The swearing-in of the four envoys comes with a clear expectation that Ghana’s diplomatic network will contribute more directly to national development.

From attracting investors and helping businesses enter overseas markets to protecting citizens and strengthening international partnerships, President Mahama wants the missions to deliver results that can be felt in the Ghanaian economy.

The President urged the new ambassadors to approach their assignments with discipline, accountability and a firm commitment to Ghana’s national interests.
